Over 100,000 people have already responded to the Cancer Quality of Life survey since September 2020, when the survey first began.

The survey now invites more people who have had a cancer diagnosis in the past 18 months to share their experiences to understand how the diagnosis has impacted their quality of life. The survey began by inviting those affected by colorectal, prostate and breast cancers but has now expanded to encourage responses from individuals affected by all cancers.

Understanding how and why cancer impacts lives provides health services with insights into how to better support and improve patient experiences of investigations, diagnosis, treatment and beyond.

Quality of life is about physical, emotional and social wellbeing. The survey answers could be about cancer diagnosis and treatment but could also be about any other illnesses and other things happening in life.

The survey takes about 5-10 minutes to complete, and responses will be compared with information about cancer investigations, diagnosis and treatment to best find out how services can be adapted to suit patients better or if there are any new services needed.

Penny Brooks, South Yorkshire & Bassetlaw Cancer Alliance’s Quality Oversight Chair and Lay member, said: “The Cancer Quality of Life survey can really help us understand the impact of cancer and its treatment on patients and their families. This information will help shape and design the services that support people to live well with and beyond cancer and importantly empowers patients to have meaningful discussions about their cancer journey.”
