Hillsborough (Sheffield) Breast Screening Interventions using Behavioural Science

Kate Leadley, Cancer Champion for Hillsborough PCN created a Breast Screening poster using Behavioural Science nudges to increase breast screening within Hillsborough. The poster was developed and displayed in all 4 practices, local supermarkets, and local community centres, as well as being shared on social media and in local publications. The poster was a great success and is now included in all Breast Screening Promotion packs. These packs are sent out to all practices across SYB two months before their invites are sent out. For more information on the Breast Screening Promotion packs, please click here. To create a poster for your area using the below template, please email amy.moore39@nhs.net

For October Breast Cancer Awarness Month, Kate also created a text message (please see below) using nudges, which included a link to Tramways and Middlewood Practice website which provides information on screening.

"Dear <<……..>>

October is breast screening awareness month! The NHS Breast Screening Programme saves 1300 lives every year through early cancer detection, leading to better outcomes. Don’t miss out. Join the 1.5 million women (in the UK) just like you who have attended their Screening appointment in the last year. If you have already received a letter but not responded it is not too late. Please call the breast screening service today at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital on 0114 271 1920 to book an appointment. The screening involves two X-rays of each breast and takes around 10 minutes. For further information and videos, you can also visit the screening page on our website under the ‘services’ tab at: https://www.hillsborough-middlewood-doctors-gp.co.uk/."
