September is NHS Cancer Care Month, a month-long celebration of the progress and innovation taking place across the North East and Yorkshire as NHS teams turn the ambitions of the National Cancer Plan into real change for people affected by cancer.

Throughout the month, teams from across South Yorkshire & Bassetlaw and the wider region will be sharing stories about the difference their work is making – highlighting new approaches, successful projects and the people behind them.

The campaign is built around four themes:

  • Detecting cancers earlier – helping more people recognise signs and symptoms and access diagnosis sooner.
  • Innovation – exploring how new ideas, technology and ways of working are improving cancer care.
  • Rare cancers and research – showcasing specialist expertise and research that is helping to improve outcomes for people with cancer.
  • Tackling inequalities and designing care around people’s lives – making sure cancer services meet the needs of everyone, wherever they live and whatever their circumstances.

The month will feature videos, podcasts, case studies, blogs and other stories, bringing the work to life and sharing ideas that could help shape the future of cancer care.

An introductory video features colleagues from across the region, while a growing collection of case studies provides an insight into the practical changes already taking place.
