SYB Cancer Alliance's Alison Thorp, Joanna Puczkowski and Dr Jason Page supported the World COPD Day Information Event at Breathing Space with the Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust on Wednesday, 16th November, where they promoted the Targeted Lung Health Check programme.

Joined by Eliza Groark from Voluntary Action Rotherham, the team spoke to attendees about the Targeted Lung Health Check programme, sharing knowledge and learnings with partners from across the region and engaging with the local community affected by chronic respiratory conditions.

The event was hosted at Breathing Space, the Trust’s hub for patients with respiratory conditions, where patients, family, friends, caregivers and professionals were given the opportunity to discuss and learn about the management of chronic respiratory conditions.

With the Targeted Lung Health Check programme recently beginning in Rotherham on 26th October, the event provided a welcome space to talk about chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in relation to the broader topic of lung cancer awareness importance. The event also benefitted from talks throughout the day, including a talk from Clinical Director Dr Jason Page about the Targeted Lung Health Check programme.

The Targeted Lung Health Check Programme endeavours to work in partnership with other healthcare providers and the local voluntary and community sector to bring this programme to communities across SYB and in Rotherham, working closely with Eliza and Voluntary Action Rotherham, to engage the wider community and reach under-represented groups

The day included taster sessions for pulmonary rehabilitation and tai chi, educational talks on COPD, spirometry and lung health, and a performance by the Trust’s very own Breathing Space choir.

Community groups also attended, including Baywater Oxygen Services, Breathe Easy, Functional Fitness, Get Healthy Rotherham, IAPT, Medical Physics and Respiratory Physiology, Research and Development, Social Prescribing, Speech and Language Therapy and Yoga Sanctuary.
