If you're aged between 55 and 74, smoke or used to smoke, and you are registered with a GP, you'll get a letter inviting you for a free lung cancer screening test.
Lung cancer is the third most common cancer in the UK and, as there are often no symptoms for lung cancer until a much later stage, screening is the best way to find it early when there are more treatment options available.
Since this screening programme launched in South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw in 2021, 75% of lung cancers found have been at an early stage - and most of these have been cured.
To help people understand what to expect when you're invited for Lung Cancer Screening, the Cancer Alliance has produced an informative video that walks you through what happens.
From receiving a letter, to attending a non-invasive scan appointment and beyond, the video explains everything you need to know.
