Help Us Help You Campaign

We had a discussion around the third iteration of the toolkit and how we could evolve our messages. Important point raised about the group of people who have already been referred but are awaiting diagnostics/treatment and managing expectations.

Action for the comms team/Cancer Alliance: Focus on “managing expectations” messages and connect with support services and charity partners to ensure everyone has the latest information to inform ‘face to face’ conversations with patients. Circulate media coverage.

Action for the communications and engagement steering group: Let us know if you have any other ideas/suggestions or can help disseminate information.

What Matters To You?

We didn't manage to get round to covering this but the information can be found in the meeting slides along with the secondary attached comms strategy. We will certainly cover this in the next meeting.

Action for the comms team/Cancer Alliance: Launch the training via Voluntary Action Rotherham within the charity and voluntary sector

Action for the communications and engagement steering group: Let us know if you have a preferred logo (p14). Help support the dissemination of information once released to charity and voluntary sector partners!

What Matters To You? Communications Strategy

Cancer and Covid: Mutual Aid

Georgia Thompson joined us to discuss “mutual aid” that has been taking place as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and the need to transfer the care of a small number of cancer patients to other hospitals. Members of the group provided feedback and thoughts on “If this happened to you, what would you want to know?” and some of the guiding principles.

Action for the comms team/Cancer Alliance: Update the principles (done and attached) based on feedback as well as the information for patients describing the transfers and subsequent questions. Attached.

Action for the communications and engagement steering group: Please have a look at the draft messaging and questions and answers and let us know if there are any other questions you can think of that might be helpful.

Developing Rapid Diagnosis Services

Marianna Hargreaves joined us to talk through the latest with the programme to develop Rapid Diagnostic Services. We are looking at how patients and the public can help us to shape services as much as possible.

Action for the comms team/Cancer Alliance: Further develop the communications and engagement strategy and plan (January). Update the presentation based on experience and feedback (completed in readiness for the Patient Advisory Board). Marianna to return to future meetings to discuss different elements of the programme – in bitesize chunks!

Action for the communications and engagement steering group: Based on the conversation and slides so far, please read the information attached (draft messaging and questions) and let us know your thoughts on whether this makes the programme easier to understand and if there are any other questions you can think of that we need to answer.

Further Actions for the Cancer Alliance

Arrange a meeting for January.

Commit to circulating any relevant slides or information relating to the agenda in advance of the meetings in future so that members of the group have a chance to pre-read/familiarise themselves with the topics.

Don’t be so ambitious with the amount of content next time!
