We held our first annual ‘Recognition and Celebration Conference’ on Friday, 17 May at Doncaster’s Keepmoat Stadium.
Cally Palmer, National Cancer Director and David Fitzgerald, National Cancer Programme Director from NHS England were among the speakers for the day-long event. The presentations and information are available here on our newly launched Cancer Alliance website.
The morning consisted of snapshot presentations lasting seven minutes from presenters showcasing the exceptional work from across the Cancer Alliance. Contributions included: Alison Thorp with ‘Be Cancer Safe’, Vicky Athey on the ‘Vague Symptoms Pathway’, Kate Linton talking through prostate cancer as well as Debra Fores from the Aurora Wellbeing Centre and Louise Merriman on the lower GI pathway and the FIT test implementation across primary care. There were many more and all were rated highly on the evaluation from the day. Our special thanks to them all for their contributions, time and hard work.
The afternoon took the form of three workshop sessions. These were focused on engagement, primary care and integration across the whole system. The feedback was similar across all three workshops: A call for stopping silo working and being non-system, investment in our workforce, creating links earlier into schools and universities to develop skills and roles, working together with patients. Being brave and focusing on innovation and sharing.
