Michele Smith, Sister on Ward C2/CCU at Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (DBTH) wrote this poem to bring morale to her team. We thought we would share it with you.

When the challenges ahead lead you to despair,

Remember your team will always be there.

We can’t hold your hand, or give you a hug,

But we’re in this together, we will beat this vile bug.

We will look after our patients, as best we know how.

They have never needed us more than they need us now.

Not just for their treatment and our excellent care,

But to act as their family when they can’t be there.

It will be tough, it will be hard, there will be many tears.

There will be doubts and frustrations and so many fears.

But together this team will somehow find a smile,

As we push ourselves forward for this extra mile.

We are part of a wheel that keeps turning around.

We will all play a part with silence or sound.

We are different sized cogs that make our wheel spin,

Without each one of us we just couldn’t win.

As Team DBTH we can stand very proud.

Let’s say it, let’s sing it, let’s shout it out loud.

When all this is over, let’s reach out to each other,

And share a big hug with each work sister and brother.

So, this message is simple, this message is clear.

To all of our colleagues, we hold you all dear.

Stay safe and stay well, we will get through this huge test,

Cos as team DBTH, we know we’re The Best.
